Financial assistance for the purchase of a new
Energy Star® certified natural gas furnace

Get $2,000 from Gazifère when you buy a NovoclimatMC house!!

Planning to buy a new house that will be comfortable, healthy and built to higher energy efficiency standards? A Novoclimat certified home will meet your expectations!

Choosing a Novoclimat house means choosing a lifestyle. To encourage you in meeting your energy-saving goals, Gazifère offers a $2,000 rebate when you buy a new single-family Novoclimat certified home - detached, semi-detached or a row house - provided the primary heat source is natural gas

How to get your Gazifère rebate
To make sure that the Novoclimat requirements are met, your builder will have it inspected twice by an energy efficiency expert trained and authorized by the provincial energy efficiency agency, the Agence de l'efficacité énergétique (AEE). When you take possession, the builder will give you the Novoclimat certificate, and a rebate application form to be completed and returned to Gazifère with a copy of the Novoclimat certificate. The $2,000 rebate is payable to the homeowner, and is not taxable.

Comfort, health and energy savings

Novoclimat homes are synonymous with comfort, healthy living and energy savings. Built with care by builders who are specially trained and accredited by Quebec's Agence de l'efficacité énergétique, Novoclimat certified homes meet higher standards for insulation, weather sealing and ventilation. They offer more comfort, better air quality, better resale value, and energy performance that is at least 25% better than that of a traditional home.

Novoclimat is an Agence de l'efficacité énergétique du Québec concept that encourages the building of energy-efficient new homes, regardless of the energy source used. For more information, call 1 877 727-6655 or go to http://www.aee.gouv.qc.ca/english/english.jsp.

RénoclimatMC : Energy assessments and financial assistance for renovations

Energy assessments
Energy bills too high? Looking for ways to cut your heating and air-conditioning costs? Have an energy efficiency expert assess the energy efficiency of your home.

This Agence de l'efficacité énergétique du Québec program encourages owners of single-family homes using natural gas as their primary heat source to seek expert advice to help them improve the energy performance of their homes. The program includes:

  • An assessment of some of the items that affect the energy performance of your home: insulation, weather sealing, furnace efficiency and so on;
  • An energy assessment report recommending any work required; and
  • The energy rating for your home at the time of the assessment.

Thermographic analysis using infra-red technologyMC
You want to zero in on the thermal performance of your home's envelope? Get an infra-red thermographic analysis. The infra-red analysis can be a useful complement to the energy assessment for homeowners who want to pinpoint weak spots in their home's envelope.

Financial assistance for energy-saving renovations
The assessment reports of the energy efficiency experts have convinced you. You are now planning to make renovations that could substantially improve the energy performance* of your home. Following the advice of an expert who has made an energy assessment of your home could qualify you for financial assistance from Gazifère, uo to a maximum of $700 per address.

How to qualify for financial assistance from Gazifère for energy-saving renovations

You must be the owner of a single-family, semi-detached or row house that uses natural gas as the primary energy source for heating.

You have 18 months from the date of the energy assessment to complete the recommended work. When the work is finished, a consultant will reassess your home at no charge to determine a new rating that reflects the improved energy performance of your home. The difference between the two ratings will determine the amount of financial assistance. When the second assessment has been completed, your expert will forward your file to Gazifère. You will then receive a cheque for the amount of financial assisstance to which you are entitled.

Remember that taking part in the Rénoclimat program, you become eligible automatically for a grant from Natural Resources Canada under the ecoENERGY Retrofit program. For more information, dial 1-800-387-2000 or go to www.ecoaction.gc.ca

* Gazifère's financial assistance does not cover conversions from natural gas to another energy source. The increase in the energy performance rating attributable to the installation of a high-efficiency warm air furnace and a programmable thermostat, for which Gazifère offers a separate rebate, is also excluded from the calculation of the amount of financial assistance for energy-saving renovations.

Rénoclimat is a program of the Agence de l'efficacité énergétique du Québec that encourages energy-saving renovations of existing homes, regardless of the energy source used. For more information, call 1 877 727-6655 or go to www.aee.gouv.qc.ca.

Free water-saver kit

Depending on the type of home, the number of occupants and their user habits, water heating can account for over 20% of your total annual energy consumption. Simple but effective steps can be taken to help you reduce your domestic water heating costs!

Gazifère makes a free water-saver kit available to homeowners. By installing the items in the kit, and lowering the temperature of your water heater from 60 to 55°C (140 to 130°F), you could reduce your water consumption substantially, and save nearly $100* on your annual natural gas costs.

For each home or apartment, the free kit includes the following:

  • Up to two reduced-flow shower heads;
  • Two aerators: one for the kitchen, and one for the bathroom; and
  • Three metres of insulation to be installed on the outlet pipe from your water heater.

Do you qualify?

  • You are a Gazifère customer whose residence includes from one to six dwelling units, inclusive?
  • Your home is equipped with a natural gas water heater?

If you can answer yes to these two simple questions, you qualify for Gazifère's energy-saving program.

How to get your free kit
Come to the Gazifère customer service counter at 706, boulevard Gréber, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m from Monday to Friday. A Gazifère employee will give you your free water-saver kit. Limit: one kit per dwelling unit or residence.

*Energy savings may vary, depending on your consumption pattern.

Free heat reflector panels!

If your home was built before 1980 and is heated by natural gas hot water radiators or convectors (finned pipes), you are probably losing large amounts of heat through walls that are not well insulated.

Gazifère suggests you install Novitherm® heat reflector panels-a simple but effective step that can save you up to 10% on your heating costs!*

How reflector panels work Installing reflector panels behind radiators installed against outside walls significantly reduces heat losses by reflecting more than 90% of the heat into the room. In addition, the reduction in heat losses generally makes it possible to reduce boiler temperature by about 5.5°C, while maintaining the same comfort level.

How to install reflector panels Heat reflector panels are easy to install: no need to disturb the radiator or convector. You can adjust the dimensions of the reflector panels to match those of your heating equipment by overlapping sections horizontally or vertically, or cutting them with ordinary scissors.

After the installation of your heat reflector panels, we recommend that you reduce the temperature with a programmable thermostat in order to maximize your energy savings.

* Energy savings can vary depending on the amount of insulation in exterior walls and the reduction in boiler temperature after the installation of heat reflector panels.

This offer is limited to Gazifère customers whose residence (one to six dwelling units, inclusive) uses natural gas as the primary heating source.

How to get your panels Send us the appropriate completed application form. A Gazifère employee will contact you to explain how you can obtain your free reflector panels.

A $200 rebate on the purchase of a drain water heat recovery unit

A drain water heat recovery unit can help keep the water hot for longer, and bring you savings of 5 to 10% on your heating costs.

Durable, practical and maintenance-free, a drain water heat recovery unit is recommended for homes in which showering represents a significant portion of the hot water consumption, or the existing water heater has difficulty in keeping up with demand.

How does it work?
When you shower, a large quantity of hot water goes down the drain. Installing a heat recovery unit enables you to recover some of the heat from the waste water, which is used to pre-heat the cold water flowing into your water heater. As a result, the heater gets more water up to the desired temperature more quickly, while using less energy.

What does it look like?
The recovery unit consists of a section of copper drainpipe wrapped in copper coils. Cold water from the main flows through the coils, absorbing heat from the shower water flowing down the drain. This pre-heats it from 9°C to 26°C before it flows directly into the water heater, or to the cold side of the shower faucet.

Where can I get one?
For more information, or to learn where you can buy one, contact the manufacturer directly at 1-877-606-5559, or go to www.renewability.com.
